If you are looking for records in Reading parish registers you may need to look further than St Mary's (St Mary's Butts to distinguish it from St Mary's Castle Hill). There were two more parishes, St Laurence and St Giles that date back to Tudor times and earlier. Then there were another 15 or so added from the mid C19th to the early C20th.

St Marys are available in a book published in the early 1900s, which is available from one or two of the facsimile books on CD people.

Berks FHS publish transcripts of St Laurence and St Giles as well as the later parish of Greyfriars. Several more Reading parishes are being transcribed at present - St Luke's will be out in a week or three.

Hi,
I'm picking up this family line again after some time and I'm really hoping Alan who very kindly gave me info will see it  ;)
I'm looking for a marriage of John Annetts to Harriet unknown, probably chilton sometime between 1820 -1825 though that is only guess work.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jo

Hello Jo,
What makes you say John married a Harriet.  I know the IGI is saying that but its only "about 1823" and is only a submitted entry.

In the Chilton PRs (ex OFHS) there is this entry;
Marriage;
21-1-1828 John ANNETTS, widower,  to Sarah WALLIS.   By Banns.
wits; Joseph Annetts, Martha Welch.

Baptisms;
2-2-1800 John Annettts s/o Thomas & Mary
15-1-1809 Joseph  "        "        "            "

Hi Alan,
Many thanks for your quick reply.  I have a baptism record ( from ancestry ) for Hannah Annetts 16/3/ 1823, father John, mother Harriet.  John according to his baptism was born in 1800 so I am guessing that the marriage would be between the dates I listed. I haven't actually looked at the IGI as I don't trust it. The baptism date for John Annetts would confirm that I have the right John.
Thanks for your help Alan
Jo

Hi Jo,
In the Chilton PRs there is;
Burial;
28-8-1825 Harriet EMMETT, Chilton, age 22 so allowing for the name change this could be
John's first wife. I don't know where they married. Perhaps if you have access to A....try
that might give a lead as to where they married.

Also in the PRs is this;
Marriage;
12-3-1799 Thomas ANNETTS*, widower,  to
                  Mary BROAD,     By Banns.
wits; John Harris, Susanna Johnson

Burials;
22-2-1791 Ann ANNETTS,# W. Thomas, Labr.
30-11-1841 *Thomas ANNETTS, Chilton, age 88

In the Blewbury PRs (ex OFHS) there is this entry;
Marriage;
5-11-1786 Thomas ANNATTS to
                # Ann SLADE      By Banns
wits; William Huggins, Ann King       (Is this Thomas' first marriage?)

Do these help?

PS. I think it might be preferable if you closed this post for "Hutts" and started afresh request.

Hi alan,
I see that John was a widower when he married Sarah Wallis in 1828 so its likely that Harriet was his first wife, the date of burial for Harriet Emmett fits.
Many thanks for the other info, their all 'mine' and it is a big help.
Cheers
Jo
