I have been in touch with other contacts on My Brighton Messages website, East Brighton Bygones Website and Sussex Family History Group.  Many of the members of these groups are still living locally and from what I can see, are contacting the local media also expressing their concern.

Depending on the time scale involved the effective method may be to only vote for candidates in next year'slocal election who pledge to protect not cut services, but this may well not work as under the system of local government funding only an average of around 20% approx. is raised locally, the rest comes from central government funds, and the choice there is between cut gradually (present government) or rapidly (opposition if they win)
