Hi KN,

Have just looked at my notes for John Cox and see that he died between the 1851 and 1861 censuses so the burial you have for John Cox in 1855 could well be the right one.  The fact that he was 36 could just mean that his birthday fell between end of March (census date) and August.  He may well have been born 1820 and not baptised until 1821.  I am  happy to accept it as being right unless anyone proves it different.  Perhaps the actual register entries would have the correct age. e.g. his marriage entry which would confirm his death age.  It was very young and his poor wife was left with 5 children plus one just a newborn.

Thanks again.
Elizabeth

Dear Elizabeth

Here's a small Christmas gift for you!

It's a cutting from Jackson's Oxford Journal of Saturday Aug 11, 1855.

Hi KN,

Thank you so much for that entry in Jacksons Oxford Journal.  That is something I can print off and put in his family file and it will save me having to send for  the death cert.

A brilliant Christmas present and I really appreciate all the kindness you have shown to me.

Happy New Year.

Elizabeth

Hi
Noticed you were looking in Curbridge/Witney area - I have the 4 Witney area cds, like you say v. expensive but I had money then (no longer!).  Happy to look up anything for you.

Haven't found Peter & Elizabeth marriage yet but have found the following children which may point to a marriage date:

St Mary Witney:
John Cox 12 Aug 1792
Sarah Cox 10 Apr 1793
Jane Cox 19 Oct 1800

Don't look at Lew transcripts as they are 1842 onwards for baptisms, 1860 marriages.  Have looked through the parish regs (some are searchable pdfs, others you have to read) and can find nothing else - checked burials etc.  The gap between 1793 and 1800 imply other children somewhere but have not found them.  May be worth looking just outside Witney parish, eg Woodstock

Sorry nothing more concrete.

Hi Steph,

That's great to find some more information on the Cox family, I really appreciate it and it was a nice surprise as I had thought the thread was dead by now.

I didn't have John or Sarah's baptism so that is a bonus and I think like you, that there must be more children in between Sarah and Jane.

KN had already given me Jane's baptism and her son John's baptism but it is nice to have siblings and possible parents information in order to go back a bit further.

Elizabeth may have lived a distance away from Curbridge so the marriage would have taken place there so I should get a map and see which villages are close by and go through the IGI site.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Elizabeth

Edit:  Just checked and KN found me the baptism for John 1792 but am a bit surprised that Sarah was baptised only 8 months later.  Are they both the children of Peter and Elizabeth.?

Hi Lesanne,

It would great if you could keep your eyes open for a  marriage between Peter Cox and Elizabeth ? circa 1791 as per the above posts.

However, I would be delighted if you have the time to check on my 3xgreat grandfather Thomas Giles.

He married Elizabeth Fisher 25.6.1816, in West Hanney although the family were from East Hanney  and I think he was born about 1790 and I have found a death in 1834.

I have looked at the BT's for West Hanney but as I hadn't got back that far at the time I may have missed some of the entries.

There are a lot of Giles in the West Hanney and East Hanney areas, so it is a bit confusing trying to sort them out.

Any help would be much appreciated but only if you have time.

Best wishes,

Elizabeth

Just double-checked Witney St Mary christening regs for John and Sarah and both definitely correct.  It could be that John christened a few months after birth and Elizabeth fell pregnant straight away or, something which has happened rarely in my family, they could be twins but christened on separate dates? I think I also remember reading about a case in the papers some time last year of a woman conceiving again when she was already pregnant - poor soul.
