Help with words please.

I think the first word on the bottom line is probably 'wounded' but what do you think the first word of the first line is please. poli

lost the use of his left-hand and arm, but it is lucky he escaped with his life, he was wounded 12 month last November.

Is the second word has or is this part of the first word. pity the page hadn't been opened more before it was photocopied.

12 month last november doesn't make sense to me.

Does "12 month last November" perhaps mean a year before last November? Another way of saying it would be "last November twelvemonth" (perhaps this is a southern English way of speaking?)  :)

Just a thought

Roger

Roger, funny that you should say it's a southern way of speaking, cos it's exactly what my mum(from Macclesfield) would have said.

Also her brother was called Ellis and that's what I read it as too, maybe I'm biased :D

"last November twelvemonth" (perhaps this is a southern English way of speaking?)

i've never come across this way of speaking before, incidentally,
the writer came from N.Wales .

Thank you all for your thoughts--Ellis, unfortunately doesn't [at the moment] seem to figure in the family though.

i have more from this letter that i could use some help for but it was sent to me as part of a passport application via  Ancestry and i'm not too sure how much i am allowed to copy/show? :-\
