What Make Of Car?
« on: Thursday 17 December 09 12:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, hopefully some one of you will be able to help me out with what make of car this is. I know that the vehicle is on the dockside of Blyth Harbour Commission in Blyth Northumberland. I wonder if it is a Vauxhall or some such, but need help. I think it looks very American......

Any help much appreciated.

I thinks it's American ... the closest Vauxhall shape would be this one - and it isn't one of them.

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi Philip,

Looks like a Chevrolet to me, though I cnnot find the exact year/model.

The first one below is a 1955, I think yours may be slightly older.

Matt.

Thanks Geoff and Matt.

How do you think this 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air compares? I think it has the correct window pattern and the square cut to the body styling just in front of the rear wheelarch.

Philip

Thanks for the pointer Matt

Modification, The Chevvy in the picture is a third generation model that was produced 1955 - 57.

'Tis a Chev, I think; we have a PA-series Vauxhall similar to the one pictured above, and while an earlier model had a similar grille, the rear windscreen on both models curves "around the corner" of the car, making the shape of the rear side windows quite different.  Also, it looks as if this car is much longer and lower than a Consul (but that may be my eyes!).
I live in Sydney, Australia, and I'm researching: Powell, Tatham, Dunbar, Dixon, Mackwood, Kinnear, Mitchell, Morgan, Delves, & Anderson

Now I thought a Ford Consul, but before I posted others far more knowledgable than I had gone up the American street, so I didnt.
But glad to know I wasnt alone.

Is it possible to blow up the photo, or at least the very front of the bonnet of the car, to see what emblem, or at least get a better idea of what shaped emblem is there?

Sorry, that image is the best I have.
