ELAND - Market Harborough
« on: Friday 18 December 09 11:36 GMT (UK) »
My father, Frank ELAND was born in Market Harborough in 1900 but the family were living in their home county of Yorkshire in 1891 and in Derby by 1901 so their stay in MH was fairly short and I am wondering how they came to be there.  In 1891 there was a printer in MH by the name of William ELAND (he founded the local newspaper) and I am wondering if he was a relative whom they were staying with (allthough I can't find him in 1901).

Is anyone researching this family please?   or does anyone have any information about William ELAND and his family?

Further to the above I have now found William Eland the printer in the 1861 & 1881 census - it appears that he was born about 1824 in Toddington Bedfordshire - so no connection with Yorkshire that I can see.

Oh - well done Mike,  I had found a baptism for William at a Weslyan church in Bedfordshire in 1824 to Richard & Sarah - but I was having trouble finding them in the census

Nice one   :D

Just had another  dig around
Found the following article :~

A new Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in King's Head Place in 1813.
In 1871 this was replaced by a new chapel on the Northampton road.

So was Woodbine Cottages the  “Manse” to the Chapel in King’s head Road. ?

Eland Burials found :~

Assuming the place of birth for Richard Eland is Hutton Rudby then I may have some details that might help as I have Elands from that area.  All on scrappy bits of paper though.  Mine were ag labs so may not be connected but it is not a very common name.  Let me know if you want me to look.
