1841 / 1851 Census - Wiveliscombe
« on: Wednesday 23 December 09 18:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Trying to find the following:

James Stevens (Head) bc 1796  Wiveliscombe
Ann                  (wife)   bc 1798  Wiveliscombe

I know they had 2 daughters Mary Jane bc 1819  and Eliza bc 1824. The former could be married by 1841 but the latter may still be at home. both were also born in Wiveliscombe.

Grateful for any help.

Thanks in advance.

I can't say for sure as I'd only be guessing.

Could they be listed in Devon as I believe Wiveliscombe is close to the border?

Hi there

Incase you haven't got this from freereg.org

James Stevens and Ann Newton married Wiveliscombe St Andrews 21 Oct 1817 witnesses John Hurford and William Milton. Possible baptism at St Andrews for James 27 Mar 1796 parents James & Mary.

Also at St Andrews James & Ann's childrens baptisms

Mary 14 Nov 1819 father occupation weaver
Eliza 1 Feb 1824 father occupation weaver

There is a burial of a James Stevens at St Andrews 12 Sep 1824 aged 31 so born about 1793, doesn't give any further details though. I haven't found James/Ann yet on the 1841 census but at least we have a possible occupation for him if this burial isn't him.

Will have another look round
