HOUGH - George (B 1873) & Lionel W. (B 1877)
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 17:29 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for GEORGE HOUGH (b 1873 Portland, Dorset UK) and LIONEL WILLIAM HOUGH (b.1877 Ringstone, Hampshire UK).
These two gentlemen were my grandfather ALBERT EDWARD NORMAN PALMER's half-brothers..
Their father was JOB HOUGH and their mother was EMMA NORMAN (b. 1856 Portland, Dorset UK)
I can recall that my grandfather said that one of them had emmigrated to AUSTRAILIA, but my grandfather was 70 when I was born and died long before I became interested in the family tracing..  EMMA NORMAN was my great grandmother I assume JOB HOUGH died and EMMA married my great grandfather JOHN PALMER in Alverstoke, Hampshire around 1879/1880.
I would really appreciate it if someone could look at the Australian records and try and find either or both of these gentlemen for me.

in the 1891 census LIONEL is in a Royal Navy School where I believe sons of sailors, who had died, were trained and housed.   I cannot find GEORGE in the 1881 census, but he was then 18 so might have emmigrated.

This is all the info I have on these two.
Would greatly appreciate any help.
Regards

Hi Delva

Have you seen the file on the National Archives website for a George Hough - father Job Hough. The actual file is digitised so you can view it.

It looks like George may have settled in Western Australia(WA).

Here is the link

http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx

Search now a a guest and just type in George Hough - 26 come up if I remember. Your George is down towards the bottom.

Hope this helps

Upon reading  the digitised file it appears sadly that he was killed in action 13/12/1916 in France.

Sorry Delva and Troods,

This appears to be another George HOUGH also with a father named Job.  :'( This chap was from Bolton Lancashire and was aged 23 when he enlisted in 1914. The George we are after was born in 1873 in Portland Dorset.

Cheers Kris  :)
