Transferring emails to memory stick
« on: Thursday 31 December 09 08:51 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if it is possible to save emails to a memory stick?  For example the contents of the inbox etc.

Thanks for any information.
Ewan

You can save files to a memory stick.  By files I mean inbox.dbx if you are using Outlook - in which case you may need to copy your address book as well.

Assuming that you are talking about Outlook then click on Start and then Search and enter these search patterns:

*.dbx
*.wab

When they are found right click them and select Send To and then select your memory stick.

The .dbx file extension is for Outlook Express. For Outlook, search for  .pst files

Thanks downside and shaun for your replies with help.

I entered .pst files and and list of files came up under 'files' and a list of communications came up under the heading 'communications' :-\

The communications look like some of the emails but not all of them.  The annoying thing is that whilst I was doing this a window appeared with all the emails, but I don't know what I did to make them appear :-\

Right I have discovered that I pressed enter and the whole lot came up. ::)

How do I just choose to see the separate boxes ie inbox, or deleted, drafts or sent, in order to save only the required box?

I'm not sure that there is an easy way to do that. Others may be more knowledgeable.

One method would be to create a new PST file on the memory stick (In Outlook, File  >New >Outlook Data File etc) , and then copy or move to it the emails that you want to transfer.

If you have Outlook (part of MS Office) then you should only have one file called outlook.pst and possibly another called archive.pst if you have done any archiving of old old emails.

Outlook uses database technology and the file outlook.pst is a giant container for all the objects (folders, address book) that you see.   So you can't separate them as such.  However you could make a copy of your outlook.pst and call it mycopy.pst and save it.  Then open mycopy.pst and delete the bits you don't want and then copy mycopy.pst to memory stick.

There may be other PSTs if additional data files have been created in the past. I have dozens of the things !

Ewan, I'm a little confused.

I save my emails to memory stick using ' save as' and selecting the memory stick.

I then use the memory stick on the laptops and open the email?

Have I misunderstood your question?

Happy New Year to you.
