Yeates Family from Dublin
« on: Monday 04 January 10 09:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I’m looking for connections to the Yeates family from Dublin who originated from Balscadden. I am particularly interested in any details relating to the following line:

Andrew Yeates b c1699

Andrew Yeates born Balscaden, Whitestown, Co. Dublin 1735

Kendrick Yeates born Dublin 1776

Talbot Falkner Yeates born Dublin 1812

Thomas Goldrick Yeates born Dublin c1833

I am a descendant of Thomas’ younger brother Frederick. Through connections I have made with distant relatives in Australia I have a comprehensive family tree but would like to know if there are any Yeates’ left in Dublin to whom I am distantly related.

Many thanks

Lorraine

Lorraine

At the risk of adding to your problems are you aware that Shaw's Directory for Dublin 1850 lists  George ,William & Mrs Yeates in its Index

Have just found this forum. I've been researching the Yeates family for about 20 years now. I already know Lorraine & Bray.
Re George, William & Mrs Yeates in the Directories-
George was George Mitchell, son of Samuel, and the junior partner in Yeates & Son, Opticians (Optical instrument makers) a shop made famous by James Joyce in "Ulysses"  Mr Bloom, the hero " crossed at Nassau Street corner and stood before the window of Yeates and Son, pricing the field glasses.” That was in 1904 on "Bloomsday".
I don't know who William was. The other Wms were dead by 1850.
Mrs Yeates was probably the same as Sarah Yeates in the 1842 Dir. She was probably Sarah Wilkinson, the wife of Mason Yeates, who was the son of William 1768-1834, brother of Samuel, Kendrick etc.
Lorraine has Andrew as their father , which seems OK, but I have Andrew's father as William, b. abt 1690.
William seems to have had  four sons: Jonathan 1719-1778, ?John 1727, William 1728-1785 and Andrew 1735-1796.
There are so many entries in the familysearch (IGI=Mormon) index, because
Andrew's granddaughter Martha Spence  went to the US and became a Mormon 'plural wife' the third of four in a polygamous marriage. She has many descendants in Utah, Arizona & other states today.
I am also descended from Kendrick through his daughter Matilda. Her baptism cert. gives her parents as Kendrick & Margaret. The IGI shows Kendrick as marrying Margaret Faulkiner on 20.4.1802, but does not say which parish.
Ken
p.s. 'Irish Genealogy Church Records' gives the date of their marriage as 28th April 1802. The parish was St. Andrew, C. of I. Dublin.

Andrew Yeates married Mary Holmes about 1759 and their children, born at Whitestown, were:
Samuel 1762-1834, Elinor 1764-1834, William 1768-1846, Joshua 1775-1852, Kendrick 1776-1850, and Marie 1779-1837. Some sources put Joshua as the youngest, b. 1782.
Samuel married Mary Ellen Yeates and two of their sons were prominent.
George Mitchell 1796 was part of 'Yeates & Son' in Dublin, and Andrew was active in London.
Elinor mar. 1787 Christphr Crooks, a bookseller.
William mar. Martha Mason, daughter of his cousin Ann.
Joshua mar. 1800 Ann Smith or Locksmith. Kendrick m. 1802 Margt Faulkiner,
Marie m.1806 Neal Spence. Their daughter Martha went to the US and joined the Mormons, settling in Utah.

Hi Ken
Re Andrew Yeates and Mary Holmes.
 I have 5 other children attributed to them;
John 1760, Richard 1772, Anne 1774, Thomas 1780 and Jonathon 1770.

I also have a Thomas b.  1802 Parents Samuel and Mary Ellen Yeates.

They are all on the IGI.
What is your view on this?

Have you been on Dublin Heritage site. Lots of B M D but no more than we have I think.
Another site named Eugene Sweeney in 1842 as a Churchwarden at Crumlin Parish Church. I presume it was Eugene of 1785.

Regards
Maureen
