William MARRIOTT - Birth and Marriage

We are having difficulty corroborating  birth, marriage and parent details for William.

An unsourced IGI record has him "of Gidding, Huntington", born about 1758, and married about 1783 to Mary "of Gidding, Huntington".

There is another unsourced IGI record of Mary being born about 1762.

A Mary Rowe was born 3 Nov 1762 at Little Gidding f Henry m Elizabeth [IGI Batch C168621].

A number of Marriott (Maret, Marrot, etc) families frequented Winwick, Old Weston and Little, Great and Steeple Gidding around that time.  Others were "within a day's march" at Barham, Godmanchester, Hermington, Ramsay, etc.

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

Do you have any evidence that William and Mary existed? Did they have children for example?

There's no such marriage on Hunts Marriage Index, which makes it seem as though the IGI entries are the worst kind of member submission. We have a fictitious marriage followed by two guessed baptisms using the standard LDS church member formula that all males married at the age of 25 and females 21.

Thanks for spending time on this, David.  I share your scepticism regarding  "No source" IGIs.

We do have some IGI citings (and hopefully reliable sightings and transcriptions) of records for the following children:

Ann Maret c 30 Mar 1777 at Little Gidding f William m Mary [Batch C168621]

Mary Marriot c 17 Feb 1782 at Little Gidding f William m Mary [Batch C168621]

John Marriott b 1784 at Little Gidding f William m Mary, d 9 Dec 1822 at Winwick, sp Helen or Eleanor Knighton m 7 Oct 1805 at Winwick [Film 538679]

With three apparently successful attempts at breeding, I do hope William and Mary "existed" for at least those seven years.  The question remaining is where, or if, and when they married?

And after that, who were their forebears?
