Robert Alexander and Isabella JOHNSTON [nee MCKAI/MCKAY] *COMPLETED*

Hi all

My great grandfather Robert Alexander JOHNSTON died of asphyxiation during an epileptic fit on 3 April 1912 aged 66 at Lorne Hospital, Wallacetown, Invercargill.  He was buried 'at Waikiwi' and this is all I know regarding his burial.  I do not know if there is a public cemetery [presume there is] or it is the local churchyard [although if it was the churchyard i would suspect that would have been on his death certificate].  Google hasn't helped much either.  There appears to be no online Waikiwi cemetery database.

Wondering if anyone local would care one day to attempt to locate his grave for me?  Bit of an ask as i have no idea how big the cemetery would be down there.

His wife Isabella [Bella] is buried at St Johns Cemetery [the churchyard i suspect?] and so i'm hoping maybe they are buried together.  She died 3 August 1919 of senility at  Seacliff mental asylum, Invercargill aged 70.

Yes i was presuming Waikiwi...probably rural in 1912 ... was now swallowed up by Invercargill, such is urban sprawl.  Thanks for the link :-)  No record does not make for a happy Sarndra LOL!  Their death certs state that's where they are hmmm...oh well... pesky ancestors... something will pop up somewhere hopefully, just because they don't appear online doesn't mean they aren't there!   I know i'm finding new information added to sites all the time.

Ohhhh fabbbbulousss ta muchly! :-) LOL i was going to try Johnstone but all the other documents i have of them have the name recorded correctly and thought nah it wouldn't be put in wrong..just goes to show ya...and i should know after doing genealogy for more than 33 years LOL and no wonder Johnston didn't come up for me either..had a stupid pop up blocker on that i didn't realise... it comes up now!  It seems he was known as Alexander also.  His son had the same name pretty much.

LOL heres a picture of granny Isabella taken c1910 at Invercargill with her Grandson Tommy Hunt.  My grandmother [her grandaughter 1913-1998] used to tell me she remembered Gran Bella as always sitting at her [Bella's] table with all her jewellery on, dressed in black with a bottle of beer beside her LOL.
