Lutwedge/Lutwidge Little Baptism c 1733 Thursby
« on: Saturday 09 January 10 21:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone help me with yet another dead end.  I have a Lutwidge/Lutwedge Little b c1733 Thursby, Cumberland.  The birth place was gleaned from another web site but via the IGI I have his marriage to Ann Mullender 26 Aug 1758 St Cuthbert's Carlisle.  All their subsequent children were born in Carlisle. (The Mullender branch go back to John Mullender c1675 Carlisle and Eleanor.)

Has anyone access to records that might indicate a parentage for Lutwidge?

Many thanks
Steph

The Thursby reference is also given in the IGI (submitted entry)

Presumably, the marriage register said that at the time of his marriage that he was "of Thursby" (i.e. living there).  The c1733 date simply assumes that he was aged 25 at the time of his marriage.

The IGI batches for Thursby have no LITTLE before 1748 (Mary, dau of John).
There was Lewis 1732 Rockcliffe, son of John ... but that would be clutching at straws, wouldn't it? ;)
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

I have made quite a bit of research into the name Lutwidge. At the time you mention, 1733, the Lutwidge family were quite important in Whitehaven. It wasn't unusual to name someone after a benefactor or important person in those days, so perhaps you might see if there could be any connection to the Lutwidge family of Whitehaven. Could his father have been employed by them?
