Hi Philip,
For the life of me I can't find that reference for the lease either in my notes or online  :-[ but again, off the top of my head, it was the brother-in-law of my 3xgreat grandmother, Mary Bravery, who took over the lease of the farm in 1833.  This was the year of the death of my 3xgreat grandfather, Henry Bravery.  I thought at the time that James (the brother-in-law) might have done that to secure a living for the newly widowed Mary & her children.
Henry died in 1833 & his burial entry in the Dorking pr's says, 'of Rowhook', so either he died whilst on a visit to Dorking (where the family was) or he passed away in Rowhook & they brought his body back to Dorking.  Mary didn't stay long in Rowhook after 1841 as they have all moved to Croydon by 1851.
The West Sussex Records Office have several references to Snell's Farm including deeds so if you are able to visit there you'll get more information on the farm.

From one of the references for 1899 I see that the windmill was still there & known as Rowhook Mill.  The total lands were 33 acres.

Should I come across that lease I'll post it here,

Jane

Thank you Jane for all this.  I am making a list of reference numbers for my visit to WSRO.
All good wishes

Would love to know what you find out about the farm/mill Philip!  The staff at the WSRO are very helpful & they've probably got maps which will be very useful!

Hi and welcome,
I am afraid that Philip has not been on Rootschat for some years but if his email address is still active he will have had a notification of your reply.
