Leviston Family of Drung, County Cavan
« on: Saturday 09 January 10 23:55 GMT (UK) »
Hello everyone.

I am the 4G-granddaughter of John & Abigail (nee Leviston) Lang who were married in Drung Parish in October 1808.  (confirmed on LDS site).  Abigail was baptized in Drung in 1786, the daughter of James & Abigail Leviston. (confirmed on LDS site).   I am trying to clear up a confusion due to there being a Henry Leviston who was also married to an Abigail and a Henry Leviston married to a Martha, all three Leviston families having similarly named children over the same years (1770s-1790s).  I would like to figure out the relationship between James and Henry and more about them both having wives named Abigail.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  (LDS records seem to confirm that Henry and James both died between 1817 and 1820).

Welcome to Rootschat. There are 2 types of LDS records- submitted and extracted- which are the ones you are using for confirmation?

Hello again.

The LDS records indicate that both records were extracted from local sources.

In that case you might want to check the original records (church?) to see if any other family details are listed.

Hello,

I am also researching the Leviston family of Drung and wondered if you had managed to discover anymore information? I have looked at the transcript of Drung parish registers (very incomplete) and could possibly add a little to your tree. Henry Leviston was 62 years old when he died in 1817. John Lang was from the parish of Killeshandra when he married. Would love to compare notes if you want to get in touch.
Best wishes,
Maggie

Hello Maggie,

Just yesterday I reviewed the Drung Registers on microfilm ordered through the LDS.  John Lang of Killeshandra was my 4G-grandfather, his wife being Abigail Leviston (Lang).  She was the daughter of James & Abigail Leviston (my 5G-grandparents).  John and Abigail Lang had a daughter Mary Lang.  Mary married William Flannelly of Skreen Parish, County Sligo (in a Catholic ceremony) in March 1832.  William & Mary were my 3G-grandparents who came to America during the Famine (in Nov 1846) with their 6 surviving children.  I have just published a book titled "Past-Forward - A three-decade and three-thousand-mile journey home" which tells the story of my 30-year search for our Irish roots.  Here is a link to the publisher's website if you would like to see more about the book:  http://outskirtspress.com/pastforward/

I would be happy to exchange information with you.  Send me your email address if you like.

Best regards,

Maureen
