Welcome to Rootschat

You need to check the entry in the parish register:
- to see if a parish of residence other than Leighton Buzzard is given;
- to get the names of the witnesses to see if they provide a clue;
- and to see if John was a widower as I see there was also a 1749 marriage of a John Clever in LB

Two John Cleavers were buried in LB in 1736 so there were Cleavers in the parish

Come on Tazzie, where are you? I'm only an amateur when it comes to LB

   Hello   I am here now .....

  Ok ...  for a first marriage I wonder if he could even be from Wing which is within walking distance..... well downhill otherway round can be a killer!

  John Clever bapt 1744 1 Jan father Samuel mother Martha.
  I cannot see him marrying in Wing up to 1775.

  David I get very little time to get to Leighton at the moment alas.
 Leighton draws a large number in from villages across the Bucks border so hopefully the PR may have something.
  An Ann Clever who would be sister to the above one born Wing marries in Wing.

Hello Val & Norma - welcome to RootsChat.... & hello David / Tazzie

OK I wish John had not been so clever to marry Mary - perhaps twice

The 26 July 1763 marriage does not offer more than their names - it does not state that John is a widower - but I suggest he was.

The 11 Oct 1749 marriage of John Clever to Mary Emerton says that they were both of Leighton Buzzard

John & Mary #1 baptised & buried a set of children between 1750 & 1760 that state John is a labourer; & then I find the burial of Mary wife of John Clever, labourer on 4 Nov 1760. Shortly after that 2 more burials in 1761 of Ellen & then Ann, daughters of John Clever. The burials all tie in with baptisms - if you want details let me know.

John & Mary #2 baptised & buried children between 1764 & 1777 repeating names of those who died in the previous partnership.

As to your question regarding the origins of John & Mary I have no idea.

regards John
