Just a thought ... in case you dont know about it but Rootschatters have a link with Liverpool in a great detective story  I  was intending to go to Liverpool sometime this summer to visit the cemetery where Robert Stead is buried as Rootschatters paid to raise and re  erect his gravestone.  It followed an 18 month ( I think ) search instigated by Michel and Liverpool Annie for a relatives of of Robert  whose name tags were found in a field following WW1  in France by Michels father  years ago. Its a very long story  but here are some links and a synopsis of the tale ...in case you want to include it on the itinerary.

Its a bit long to  to read  so here is a synopsis ..

Hope you dont mind me mentioning it .... I'll put a link on the latest thread of the saga  as we now have a living relative found in Australia who read the tale  just last week !

If you are coming to Liverpool, don't forget to visit China Town which is not far from the Anglican Cathedral.  It is a small but very old community and has a beautiful Chinese arch at the entrance.

I see you have discussed Albert Dock so here are some links to the Merseyside Maritime Museum - http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/maritime/  - the International Slavery Museum - http://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/ism/ - and The Tate - http://www.tate.org.uk/liverpool/

While you are down there, you can take a ferry 'cross the Mersey! http://www.merseyferries.co.uk/  Sadly the new museum at the Ferry terminal isn't open yet but you will get to see the new canal link from the Leeds Liverpool canal across the Pier Head into Albert Dock.

The Duck tour will show you a lot of famous buildings and give you local history facts and point out other places to go.

I could go on for hours but I can see some of you already know the area!  I just thought a few links might be helpful!

PS Probably the best way to decide where you want to go is to check this website out!  http://www.visitliverpool.com/

Which exhibition do you mean? Been to one about John Lennon there called ' The White Feather' - good, but doesn't compensate for the removal of 'The White Room' at The Beatles' Story :(

Hiya ...I am Liverpool born and bred from Garston...2 years ago we had a meet in Liverpool and we met in The Crown pub on the corner of Lime St and Skelhorne St which is right next to Lime St station...we went upstairs in the Crown and the price of the food and the drinks are quite cheap for a big city..The time before that the meet was in Wetherspoons but being such a big busy pub it wasn`t the Ideal venue for a meet....Albert Dock IS aTourist Area and the pubs are quite expensive so be prepared to pay "over the odds" for your food and drinks...there are plenty of cheap pubs for drinks and food but they are not always the right venue for a meet...I will be at the meet if I can depending on the day and date...can I ask if this is solely for Rootschat members ?...the last meet we had there were people from 3 geneolagy sites and it was good to hear everyones different thoughts on genealogy...anyway...if anyone needs advice on anything I will be more than happy to help or advise on locations etc.....
BTW...Annie..Ma Boyles is still a fabulous pub and you can still get a pint of prawns at the bar... :D.regards...allan ;)

Hi everyone,

I am Liverpool born and bred. I still live here too.

I am so pleased there might be a meet here, I can't wait to meet you all. Would the meet be for the day or the weekend?

As many of you have mentioned, this city has lots to offer for the genealogist and historian. My friend runs historical tours of the city, so I can always either rope him in for the day, or ask his advice on the best places, depending on what everyone wants to do.

If we go to St. Georges Hall, the Records Office is across the road if any of you need anything. But, I don't think they accommodate  us all. Also, next door to the record office is the Liverpool Museum, an abundance of collections. The Walker Art Gallery is next door the other way. That square alone would take up most of the day!!

If any of you have ancestors relating to the sea, you wont be disappointed with the Maritime Museum, at the Albert Dock. A short walk away, and you can do the Duck Tour and the ferry across the Mersey. This again would take up most of a day.

If you want to visit the 2 cathedrals, which are a 10 minute walk from each other. Then we could also visit, China Town, Phllharmonic Pub with the grandest toilets in the land!! St. Luke's Church is also near by. Known locally as 'the bombed out church'. This is sometimes open to the public, and worth a walk around.

Have you decided defintely where the meet is, and what date?

Can we all agree on the venue being Liverpool and the date being the weekend after Easter - the 10th and 11th of April?

That will let a few people make travel & hotel arrangements.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
