No trace of him at all
« on: Thursday 14 January 10 08:20 GMT (UK) »

I'm struggling to find my Granddad on any of the search sites.

My grandmother gave me all the information she had - she still had granddad's army card.

So i have when he was called up for service 3rd December1942
He came out of the army on 16th May 1947.

The card was stamped Chilwell (Aldershot)
Army No. 14359142, i think it also says he was in the RAOC 6th Battalion, as a Motor Lorry Driver.

Can't find him anywhere when i type it into search sites.

Could someone help me please?

It is rather doubtful that you will find him on a public database. WW2 records are still closed except to the NoK. Unless someone who served during WW2 became a casualty, was commissioned or was awarded a gallantry medal their service will usually only be known by their family and friends.

The NoK (your or one of his children) will have to apply for his records via:

Do you have his full birth, marriage and death certificates?  They should help you locate him and help to find more information.

For example you may be able to locate anouncements in local newspapers or a wedding photograph of him in uniform which could confirm his regiment.

I will have a look into searching for local papers for announcements. Not quite sure where to go for these, but i will have a go.
He married 17th Jan 1946 in Stranrear, Wigtownshire.

Thank you.  :)

If he married in 1946 but wasn't demobbed until 1947 there is a very high chance that he wore his uniform.  If you can find a photograph then posting a copy should enable someone to confirm his regiment.

His address on the certificate may show where he was stationed.
