Also, why would a brother of Warren, write to Ellen?  Perhaps something got confused in the reporting, and it was a brother to Ellen?  Or Alfred? On re-read, it seems it was a brother of one of the prisoners - where did I get Warren from then  :-[

I think we need to find out if there are any online newspapers for Melbourne, or criminal records or arrivals for anyone 1880's ( I think) with any of the relevant surnames.

Quote - In the early part of last year (so 1890), a brother of one of the prisoners left England for Australia, and when arrested Warren Ingram was found to be in possession of a letter addressed to Mrs Ingram.......

There were 6 prisoners:  George Cullmer, Trew, Capsey, Loveday, Ingram and Mrs Wheeler.

We never followed up that Melbourne link we knew about right from the beginning.

I notice in that NZ article AML wasn't mentioned at all.

The thought that pubs were involved, in the 1861 case wasn't there a pub mentioned? The King John if I remember correctly.

Check out the pub in 1861 and see who was running it.

We still have the query about what they did with the money, they don't ever appear to have flashed cash around.

we never follwed up the letter from Melbourne but would assuem it was Ellens relative rather than Warrens that wrote to her - checked out Warrens siblings they all stayed in UK

They (Alf Ellen Geo & Fred)  lived in an affulent area apparently

Alf senior (aka George) brought Ellen a diamond ring - thats not been handed down in my family  ;D ;D ;D

The KIng John - i was tryignto think of that keopt coming up with Kings head

anyhow i have summarised up to last night and now have all this new info. to add!  :)

shall post the summary shortly
