Only Hunts George Redman is at least 5 years older that that.

Birth reg 1844 St Neots.

Are you sure it isn't the ~1852  Hambledon, Hampshire one you want?

I think you are right. The 1881 Census shows born Hambeldon Hants, the 1901 Census shows Born Hambleton Hunts

Thanks for that info. On the 1881 Census John states he was born Westbourne in 1818 whereas ibn the 1861 Census he states he was born in Hambledon. I wonder if you could check the 1851 Census tyo see if there is any further confirmation of his place of birth?
