Have you searched the index to Irish civil registrations yet? if they married in a Catholic ceremony before 1864 it will not be listed and you'll need to search for church records

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you so much for that site. I had not come across it before. It will be useful for other searches.

Unfortunately my marriage is not recorded there.

Have a look at CHURCH RECORDS in LEITRIM RESOURCES (and also check the RESOURCES on Sligo board) but be aware that there might not be much online-

Hi, I have searched all the suggestions in Resources without luck.
I suppose I have to live with the conclusion I came to a long time ago, that I will never find my Irish ancestors.

The LDS British Isles Vital Records set of 16 CDs list the following Civil birth.
NIXON, Rose Ellen Civil Birth registration.
Birth Date: 9 Dec 1869   Birth registered on page 235 in Lurganboy Registrar’s District.
Father:   Michael NIXON, Mother: Alice HARGADEN

The registered enrty will show townland of birth and father's occupation.

2. New Style Certificates
Phase 1 of the programme commenced on 1 July 2003. From that date two new styles of life event certificates are being produced for certain years i.e. Births from 1864 (all births records), Marriages from 1920 and Deaths from 1924:

(a) the certificate in "landscape" style features a photographic image of the life event registration details copied from the relevant Register.

(b) the certificate in "portrait" style has all the life event details printed on it in typed format.

The certificate described at (a) above will be the more common one presented initially. Over time examples of certificates described at (b) above will appear.
Note:
I suggest the purchase of the “photographic image”. It is cheaper, has all available date and has no typing errors.
Research in Ireland is very very expensive. I suggest you don’t pay for Irish research until you understand how the system operates.

I notice this is your first posting so welcome to rootschat.

Thank you so much for that very helpful in depth response. There is enough info and sites to keep me going for some time.

That is a very helpful piece of advice and I am still trying to come to grips with the Irish system.

Many thanks.

aghadowey,
Just wanted to thank you again for
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347

Although the person I originally sought has not been found yet I uncovered much about my Donegal ancestors.
Great site. :)

Johnros,
Having spent some time going through stage by stage your sites, I have at last discovered the proper County,Barony,Parish,PLU of the areas I seek. This has made life so much better!
I have been on to the Leitrim/Rosscommon site many times but have never got to grips with the place names etc. Now I have cracked it. Thanks. :)
This site -
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch
which I have not used before, was very useful for many Irish Counties.

Thanks to you both.
