1851 census Trinity/St Heliers?
« on: Wednesday 16 March 05 18:00 GMT (UK) »
Either in Trinity or St Heliers for Charles Blampied b. 1815. There were 2 Charles in the 1841 Trinity census with the right father name (Charles). Which one is mine, I don't know. He was in St Heliers when he got married in 1861 the second time.

In the 1861 census, he would be a widower, if by any chance you find him in that census to.

I have a strong feeling it might be the on in Les Croix.

Thanks.

Now I have to find Rachel's Maiden name. Their son Charles was 5 in 1841 and 15 in 1851. So their marriage must have been around 1835.

I have looked up the marriage -

Trinity, Jersey -
11 Nov 1835:   Charles Blampied and Rachel BLAMPIED

(so her maiden name was the same as her husband's - and, in case you were not sure, in Jersey the name is pronounced as if it was 'Blompee')

I also looked for Charles' baptism, but unfortunately there are three Charles Blampieds baptised in Trinity in 1815 -

(a)   26.2.1815   Ch fils de Ch et Marie PICOT
(b)   19.3.1815   Ch fils de Ch et Marie MACHON
(c)    10.5.1815   Ch fils de Ch et Elizabeth MARRETT

Is there any way you can sort these out?

In the 1841 census I found -

//
Bouley Bay -
Charles Blampied 51 Farmer Y
Charles 26 Y
Elizabeth 50 Y
/ ...                      - so this is possibly family (c) above

Cross Village -
Charles Blampied 50 Farmer Y
Charles 26 Carpenter Y
John 18 Y
Rachel 37 Y
Charles 5 Y
John 2 Y

I think this might be your man: i.e. 'Cross village' = 'Les Croix',   but unfortunately Charles senior's (b.1791) wife seems to have died so we don't get her maiden name here.   ???  It is almost certainly Marie ... Picot or Machon ??

I didn't get the chance this time to look for Rachel's baptism - maybe next time I go to the archives.

Thanks I appreciate. To bad there's no census prior to 1841. :-\ Would there be another way to find out which Marie it is? I guess the death info will only give her married name.

Yes, I think there may be a way forward -  I will try to find the baptism for Charles (b. 1790's) second son, John born in 1823, - who should have the same mother.  I will try to look it up next time I get to the Archives.

Thanks. This is what I found while searching on the LDS site:

It's IGI and has mistakes if you look at siblings. There seems to be 2 generation confusion on the site.

I don't know if it's too late to ask this but when you go to the archives. Can you lookup Elsie Esther Kelling (sometime named Elize or Eliza. born in 1862 in St Heliers.  Married William Blampied in the mid 1880s. I would like to confurm that one I found on the census is the same one.

Yes I have checked these details on a transcription of the parish register, and they seem to be correct and the only possible Jean (John) Blampied born in Trinity in 1823.

These parents seem to tie up with Charles (bap. 26.2.1815) - and so parents Charles senior and Marie PICOT.

I have also looked up their marriage -

Charles BLAMPIED and Marie PICOT - 12 Jan 1783 - Trinity;  both of this parish.

Unfortunately, their fathers' names are not recorded on the transcription.
