Ann Rooney, Dublin -Carlow 1817

Hi

am searching for family of Ann Rooney, convict sent to Australia 1836 for perjury in Carlow.
This was a well published case at the time.
she was born 1817 and m Henry Cook also a convict from Eng sent to NSW they married in 1837.

any info greatly appreciated.

Hello Seeking,welcome to rootschat,I have had a quick on the National archives site there is a section for transportees,if you type transportees into the search it will give a list of dates and their film numbers,the year you are looking is covered,I hope this will be of help to you.The link is below.

thank you for your help.

i have found a newspaper article about her and her trial. it has her fathers, uncles, sister name and an aunt. unfortunately tho it seems ann, had a problem with telling the truth somewhat and the whole thing was dismissed in court as garbage..:(

however i am endeavoring to follow the leads within it, and that it may lead me to some relations of hers.

from what i have read, i believe ann was a tormented soul who was perhaps used within a conspiracy. to which further details i will not go into as i do not want to offend anyone. she was not the only one convicted of perjury during the case.

she did go on to marry and have a large family in australia. when her sentance of 7 years was handed down she stated.     ' i am sorry it was not for life'      well she got her wish as she died in NSW, Australia after having lived there for the rest of her life.
