Hello Can someone please identify the attached place name from the 1841 Census. It is/was in SALOP (now Herefordshire).

Hi jiff1

Welcome to rootschat  ;D

Are you able to give us the reference no for this page please. I presume it is a village name at the top of the page  ???

It looks like Lanverwaterdene.
So might possibly be LLanfair Waterdine  ???

But, like Rosie, I'd like to know the full census reference, so that we can look at the original in context.

After searching I've found that the image jiff1 gave in his first posting was from the 1861 census,
RG 9 / 1817 / Folio 71 / Page 12

Yes, I agree with Jen,
LLanfair  Waterdine (t definitely crossed in 1861 which helps together with LL start for the Welsh word origin. This hamlet and valley is on Shropshire (Salop) Hereford borders,
The enumerator has bravely rendered  phonetically Lan'ver'waterdine!?
