HIGGINS family - Somerset

Hello,

I am currently researching my Higgins family from Somerset.  My grandfather  was born in 1923 in Hadspen Cottage in Pitcombe.  His father was Joseph George Higgins and his mother was Hilda Jane Higgins nee Gray.  Joseph's father I believe was William Higgins.  I believe they were carters/wagoners and I know that Joseph worked for a Fred Golledge at Hadspen.  If anyone has any information concerning this family it would be much appreciated.

I was interested to read your posting as I recently bought Hadspen Cottage and am keen to find out more about its history. Certainly, it was owned by the Golledge family, whose 19th and early 20th century papers are held at Somerset Record Office, Taunton, and may include references to tenants, such as the Higgins family.

Hi, my name is Connor, and I believe I have finally found a Higgins coming off of the English connection! Let me explain.... One of William's brothers, James Y.Simpson Higgins left Somerset to travel to South Africa where he met a women with the name Katherine Juliana Hemming. So began the South African Higgins connection. Let me get back to the point. I have an entire book from all the connection and a whole tree of the Higgins family up to Andrew Higgins, the man who brought the Higgins family to England. Before that the Higgins family was an Irish royal family. But it doesn't go past William though. And Andrew Higgins died in 1610 so you know how big the tree must be! I can send you an email with a picture of the book, both English and South African connection.
