You can see this building on Google Streetview.

As far as I know, the road is Alma and there is no Almer.

Back in the 1930s and 1940s before the days of the National Health Service, many babies especially first children were born in private nursing homes.  These specialised in births and often were not used for any other purposes.  Many of these were in large houses dating from the turn of the century.

I know that I was born in one in 1940 whereas my brother who was premature was born in 1945 in a nursing home attached to the town's main hospital.

70 ALMA ROAD, NR WINDSOR.
This is a hospital for women to give birth however it was in fact a nursing hospital. It didnt treat people like they should have been treated especially if there was a birth defect.

My birth certificate shows I was born at 70 Alma Road in August 1957
My mum always told me that I was born in a nursing home

Hi
Have just studied my 1946 Birth Certificate. It shows place of birth as "70 Alma Road, Clewer Within."
I have just been given a copy of the 1947 edition of Kelly's Directory of Windsor. The entry for Alma Road covers from railway arches to 132 St Leonards Road. On the East Side of Alma Road the directory entries show from 60 & 62 Lawrence House & Chelmsford House, then St Mark's and Queen's Roads ... then 70 & 72 Princess Christian's (H.R.H) Maternity Home (Miss V.A.P. Collin, Matron) ... then Osborne Road.
Windsor Now & Then website has a 1903 photograph at http://www.thamesweb.co.uk/windsor/windsorhistory/thenandnow/PrincessChristianHome.html
Hope this is helpful

Finally found a photo of this address when it WAS a maternity home:

If you look at the thread on the that site, there is some more info.
