Grisedale in Sussex
« on: Sunday 31 January 10 21:43 GMT (UK) »
I am struggling to trace some details concerning my relation Edith May Grisedale, born 1900 in Horsham. I have her father as George Grisedale born 1863 in Ulverston, Cumberland. I cannot trace his wife or marriage details but it is likely they were married in West Sussex, perhaps Petworth area. One source has spelling as Grisdale. Can anyone help please?

This looks like Percy's birth from http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Births Jun 1898
Grisedale  Percy Eric     Islington  1b 322

Either Percy or Edith's birth certificate should give their mother's full name, including her maiden name.  She is named as Eva in the census but I can't immediately see a marriage for a George Gris(e)dale with an Eva in the list of possible brides......

Hi Jan and Ermy
Thanks and yes I had got that far but 1901 Census wasn't very readable. I thought it might be Eve or Eva but still had difficulty confirming birth or marriage of George even with different spellings. I guess I'll have to send for Edith May's birth certificate.

Hi Stephen - this post was from 2010 and peewit doesn't seem to have been on Rootschat since November 2013. Hopefully, if they still have the same email address, and have asked for notifications, they will get your kind offer.
