As you can see ev has done some good research.  It tends to back up my previous post.  It's unfortunate that the 1841 census does not give relationships.  If it had there's a good chance it would have said 'granddaughter'.


Your only other options now would to be find Kirk Sessions records from ? 1837/38 referring to  an Isabella Adam/s and possibly a Napier for having a child out of wedlock. 

Or, a gravestone with the couples name on it.

my GGG grandfather Robert Beattie lived for nealy fifty years as a
Crofter at Birdiesknap, Catterline. he and his wife had 8 children
grow up there.

The firstborn Willaim was born 28 Dec 1855 at Moathill Benholm
the 1855 birth record says that that they were married December 1854 Drumlithie
it also states her Maiden name was Elisabeth Napier and
 she was born North Braes, Parish of Durris. No age stated.

I hace searched in vain for the correct comnnections

Elizabeth disappeared after the 1891 Census presumably dead.
I could not find a death record for a Elizabeth Beattie M.S. Napier

I eventually found Betty Beattie (Wife of Robert Beattie Crofter)
who died 18 Janaury 1894 at Birdieknap,

It shows her mother as Isabella Adams, Domestic Servant (Deceased)

[Angus, my father was also called Robert Beattie he was born in Coatbridge in 1926, his father was William and I believe he grew up in a farm in the east. He left the farm and moved to Coatbridge where he married Anne Carter and together they had 6 children. Do you think your GGG grandfather Robert is also mine ?

I am afraid we are not linked at this point.

You never know, we migh infact be connected further back.

I go back through the Robert Beatties to William who died Brawliemuir Benholm in 1854

I was doing some clean up "Spring Cleaning".

I reaslized that I did not thank you all for contributing
and neither had I done any more work on this brick wall.
