... or even more scary, "Coul-ish stuff"!

By way of explanation, for the non-locals, the ancient name for Carnmoney was "Coul" or "Coole".

Read all about it in ...

Thirty Centuries in South-East Antrim, the Parish of Coole or Carnmoney
Clarke, H.H.S.J.,
Belfast, The Quota Press, 1938
318 p.

Yes, Surrey Girl, I'd echo those compliments about the local historical group's Herculean efforts in producing the guide to the old graveyard.  Much of it involved courageous/laborious work - heavy physical effort (righting and cleaning memorials) backed up by extensive research in to archive materiels in order to establish family connections.

My Indiana Jonesian adventure, liberating the map for an afternoon and getting it "specially" copied in the large after a manic expedition through potentially dangerous territory, was a paltry escapade in comparison.
[But greatly exhiliarating at the time!]

Ah, yes, those were the truly invigorating (pre-Internet) days of practical genealogy ... real money, life, limb, sanity at risk ... sigh!

Is there a close up of section A from the cemetery map?  I think this is where a few of my ancestors are supposed to be buried.

Thanks

Hi zuszus8,

Here is a scan (@200 dpi) of the Carnmoney CoI Churchyard, section A.
[It is the long thin section which lies to the West of the church, starting at the main entrance, then hugging the wall up the hill.]

The memorials in this section are in very good condition.
Details will be well recorded in the book.

Happy hunting!

Hi zuszus8
If you would like to give a surname you are looking for, the grave can probably be located in the book.

Thank you for the scan of the map Capt. Jock!

Fadge, it is either Carnduff or Cairnduff or possibly even Carinduff (they seem to have used every version over the years!).  I'm not sure if it is the old or new part of the cemetery.  The receipt i have just has Section A on it.

Thanks for the help guys.

HI

I have checked the book Carved in Stone and can find no Carnduff or Cairnduff buried in Section A of the graveyard around the Church. Also Checked The hidden Graveyard Book for the old graveyard opposite the Church and again none found in Section A.

Are you sure its the Graveyards at the Parish Church and not the Council owned Graveyard further down the road?
