Mann in Stranraer
« on: Tuesday 02 February 10 22:25 GMT (UK) »
Could someone locate the following family for me please?

John Mann husband

(H)Ellen Mann (nee McMath) wife    married 9 October 1860

son James Mann born 28 February 1865

I should like to find them on the 1880 census living in Stranraer. Did James have any siblings?

Thanks.

As a starter - a parent search on the IGI will give you details of James siblings - follow the instructions below:

PARENT SEARCH ON IGI

www.familysearch.org - On home page - click on  “Advanced Search” to the right of the SEARCH button

Select “International Genealogical Index” from the left hand menu

Input fathers name and surname and mothers name and maiden name

REGION – select British Isles from the menu

COUNTRY – select Scotland

COUNTY (will appear when you select COUNTRY)  – select  Wigtown

Click SEARCH

Thank you very much, Carole. I have used Family Search before but never realised about "parent searches".

I now need to find Agnew Crescent on an old map. Also can someone tell me where I can find the Kirk Sessions for Stranraer please. It's a long shot but my grandmother was born in 1883 in Stranraer, Ellen (or Helen) Mann Williamson illegitimate. I suspect her mother thought the father would marry her eventually, but he didn't!

Do you know where the family were in 1891 by any chance too?

This is only one of my family's mysteries.

Thanks again.
