Which Parents ? Completed
« on: Wednesday 03 February 10 15:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Can any one confirm the parents of Levi Church ? Levi was bap 12/10/1806

The Levi in my tree married Dorcas Brooks 12/4/1830 at All Saints Kempston and from the various census he states Bromham as place of birth, which would suggest his parents as Joseph and Elizabeth Allen as they were baptising children at Bromham at that time.

My dilemma is that there is also another Levi born to William Church and Elizabeth on 4/12/1805 bap 6/4/1806 Kempston. I don't seem to be able to find any info on this Levi.

Other trees suggest that Levi 12/10/1806 is William's son, just wanted to be certain I have the right family. Would the marriage cert state Levi's farther?

From the census either William or Joseph could be the parents. Look forward to some help

civil registration did not come into being until 1837
seeing as the mariage was 1830
you would not be able to get a cert
you would need to look up the parish records where the marriage took place
and then you would probably only find the names of the witnesses to the marriage
i believe but am not 100% certain the fathers name only appeared from 1837 onwards

I never take much notice of other peoples' trees!

There's a Levi Church age 27 buried at Kempston on 9 June 1833 which fits with the one born 4 Dec 1805. It would be useful to check the parish register to see if there's any detail, although as an adult it might be just his occupation that's given. And while you're looking at the PR a quick look at the 1830 marriage entry might say Levi of Bromham. No, fathers names won't be given, just the witnesses names.

As he gives his birthplace as Bromham, and none of his children in 1851 give a birthplace Kempston, I think he was the one baptised in Bromham.

There is no other info on the baptism of Levi on 12 Oct 1806, son of Joseph & Elizabeth.

These are Joseph Church who married Elizabeth Allen at Bromham on 15 May 1804; again no further info. They also baptised William on 2 Jun 1805; Elizabeth 19 Mar 1809 & Mary 30 Mar 1812.

Joseph Church was not baptised in Bromham, dispite the IGI submitted entries suggesting he was <about> 1779 & 1780

Do the Churches have ties with the Gibbins family; on 12/10/1806 Thomas & Hannah Gibbins baptised son John; & on 19/03/1809 they baptised their daughter Hannah.

Hello All,

I didn't seem to get comfirmation of your replies. So I thankyou for your interest. I was in debate with someone on GR who was insistant that William and Elizabeth were the parents. For me its now sorted as the Church family are part of an extended tree.

John  - Yes you helped me some time ago with my Winepress family.  Catherine Winepress married into your Partridge clan.  Elizabeth Winepress is the mother of Dorcas. I don't seem to have progressed very far with my early Winepress family, as one says hit the brick wall !

Anyway once again for everyones help   Margaret

OM goodness have been struggling with this one as well.  Levi (m to Dorcas) was my 3 x gr grandad.  I belong to ancestry and everyone seems to be linking my Levi to William Church and Elizabeth Grant, but I remained sceptical - and just yesterday found the death of Levi (born Kempston) death aged 27 in 1833.

So I feel I have been justified in not adding William and Elizabeth as parents.  So many people have copied this persons tree that they must be climbing the wrong branches now I think.

I am so pleased I found this thread, just stumbled by putting Levi born Bromham, bedfordshire in google.  What luck.

My FT is on ancestry and anyone is welcome to view what i have.  for anyone with ancestry membershi interested in the Church line from this levi my latest tree is   Church / Pharo Family Tree as at May 2012.

Hope this helps anyone.  Also I have lots of info on the Church families in Bedfordshire.  I transcribed the IGI onto index cards so if anyone has any queries i would be very happy to help you. (shame I couldnt help myself until yesterday and today!).  Hey ho.

Regards to all,

Susan

PS have tried to attached an image of Jack Church who was my Gr grandad.  Jack was Levis grandson.  I couldnt manage to....

Oh, and also somewhere I have the extended family tree of Dorcas Brooks sent to me years ago by an avid family expert in Bedfordshire.
