it makes sense that as a single Journeyman he lived in Virginia street and a couple of years later mover to independent Hill when married.

Hi, don't know if you're still looking for Independent Hill, but it ran NORTH between Brook Street and Bath Street, more or less opposite where Nile Street still is today. In 1901 Census I had an ancestor at No.11.
If you're interested further the National Library of Scotland is great for finding maps - search City of Nottingham, with Category Great Britain and Map Series OS 25inch, 1892-1914. Hope that's a help!
