Gardner/Hazelton in Antrim
« on: Friday 18 March 05 10:53 GMT (UK) »
Hello all: I'm continuing a decades old search for my gg-grandparents - Archibald Gardner, born about 1822 in Antrim; married there or in PA to Sarah Hazelton, born about 1823, daughter of John Hazelton and Ruth Chestnut, perhaps of Toberdoney, whose other two daughters were christened at the Dervock Presb Church. All of these people emigrated to Pittsburgh, PA and were living together when Archibald and Sarah had a son, Archie, in 1855 and daughter, Sarah, in 1860 in Pittsburgh. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I can provide additional information if needed. Sincerely, Harry

Don't know if anything on this site would be of help to you:

Thanks for your note. I have visited here before and found the christenings for my Sarah Hazelton's two sisters but not hers because the Dervock church records don't go back far enogh. It is a good Chestnut family site and does mention the Hazeltons. Thanks for your help. Harry

An Archibald Gardner turns up in a 1803 Agricultural Census for Stranocum....which is not far from Dervock (I think), perhaps a connection:

http://www.ballymoneyancestry.com/htmlsite/familysearchdetails.asp?id=34732

If you register on the Ballymoney site itself:

http://www.ballymoneyancestry.com/

then do a people search for Gardner, it should bring up about 3 pages of people with that surname in 1700/1800's (various records with varying amounts of info). Repeat same for Hazelton.

Stranocum (town and Townland) is 1.7 miles southeast of the Dervock Presbyterian Church as the crow flies and Ballyrobin Townland is adjacent to the west of Stranocum Townland. I wonder if the subject Archibald's father could be this individual (who is perhaps the Archibald Gardner noted in the 1803 Agricultural Census for Stranocum Townland or perhaps the person in the census is the grandfather):

Archy (Archibald) Gardner/Gardiner, shoemaker, Cuppidale, Stranocum, Ballymoney District, County Antrim, Ireland, daughter Margaret Gardiner, spinster, maid, witness Ella Lilley, m. 04 JUN 1863, Robert Campbell, bachelor, laborer, father William Campbell, shoemaker, Cuppidale, witness Archibald Lilley, married by John Beatty, Roseyards Presbyterian Church, Parish of Ballymoney, Ballymoney District, County Antrim, Ireland (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1863/09643/5497128.pdf)

If so, possible relations (uncle or great uncle?) are:

Alexander Gardiner, one spinning wheel, Ballymoney Parish, Flax Grower's List North Antrim 1796 (http://www.billmacafee.com/1796flaxgrowerslist/1796flaxgrowersantrim.pdf).

Alexander Grardner, Ballyrobbin (Ballyrobin) Townland, 1803 (http://www.billmacafee.com/1803agriculturalcensus/1803censusantrim2.pdf).

Alex-r Gardner, Ballyrobbin (Ballyrobin) Townland, 1825, adult “occupying” agricultural (not urban) land at this time (Ireland Title Applotment Books 1825, Ballyrobbin Townland, https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/search-pronis-ecatalogue, search the eCatalogue, FIN/5, Browse, FIN/5/A, Search, or navigate to FIN/5/A/40 for Ballymoney Parish, could not get .pdf files to open with Adobe but would open in Chrome; http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/antrim/tithe-applotments/ballymoney-parish.php, transcribed index).

On the marriage for Robert Campbell, he was residing at Cuppidale (sic).

Think the townland is Cubbindall in the civil parish of Ballymoney.
