Hi Hilary

If you know any dates of births/marriages you should be able to find them on 1837online, then apply for any relevant certificate and that should help you get further back.

Hi Hilary

Yes, if you know your grandmother's maiden name then you need to look for your grandparents marriage certificate.  If you are unsure of your grandmother's maiden name then you will need to get your mother's birth certificate to find out her mother's maiden name and then look for your grandparents marriage certificate.

Obviously you will know when your mother was born but do you have any idea when your grandparents were born?

If either of your grandparents died after 1869 then their date of birth will be in the GRO indexes - as Bee says at http://www.1837online.com (pay per view).

Do post again if you would like any futher advice/assistance.

Best wishes
