If that's the right birth, matching the given name you know of (it's on FreeBMD) then the mmn may just be an error by whomever registered the birth.

Thank you - I just wish I could find out about this marriage for the lady concerned. She is so desperate to know as both parents died before she was 10 and she was then adopted  :(

There is also one in Paddington in 1937 mmn Fisk so you need to look at both entries because they both have the same christian name

Sorry - I do now see the 1937 one.  Don't know why it eluded me before!

I won't post the given name here (there's just the one name - no middle initial), but the reference is Jun qtr 1937 Paddington 1a 74.

I agree that there's no obvious sign of a marriage.

Perhaps Harry was already married and so not free to marry Violet?

You originally mentioned a Daniel Ephraim SMITH.  Where did he fit in? Could "Harry" have been a nickname/alias?

Yes Daniel Ephraim SMITH we believe IS Harry SMITH.

Violet's death certificate states she was the widow of Harry Smith and the divorce file cites Harry Smith as the cor.respondent so I am assuming they are the same person

It's odd that it states "widow" if they weren't married

Daniel Ephraim's garndfather was Harry Smith so maybe he took his name?
