sorted then  :D

how us mancktelow's get around lol!.  Hi my name is Hayden Mancktelow and i live in Australia and my family is large over here, but we unfortunately know nothing about our family history. It is a bit of a story as to why we know nothing. What i can say is my grandfather who migrated here with his parents  sometime in the early 1900's, name is Frederick Mancktelow and if alive would probably be in his 90's or there abouts. Any information would be greatly appreciated at this time. Thank you, cheers

have just v recently started this search, so have not yet got any papers and not even sure if my grandfather and g/mother's marriage was legal, she was an aboriginal and they had no rights when they married so although approved by the aboriginies board at the time not many records are available am just waiting to hear from national australian archives

Hi there,

Do you know which state the marriage would have taken place ?  And do you know the district where your g/mother was raised ...  Some of the regulations varied from time to time and from place to place, and of course the interpretation of those regulations also varied.... depending on the local "guardianship" boards, some of which were church based ...  I have some information about one of several in the Cobar NSW area, where the Board provided guardianship for children of many ethnic backgrounds, many of those children were of aboriginal backgrounds.    From my own researching I am aware that some births where one parent was of "European" ethnicity were registered.   And I am also aware that the NSW BDM online index has indexed baptisms, marriages, burials for Aboriginals in the Early Church Records ie 1788-1856.

Hope this information helps,

The NSW State Records Office has collections that have involved many dedicated volunteers researching through the archiveal holdings and the collection has been displayed and was recently touring various other archive centres in Australia.  If you are interested, I will check back through the newsletters.

Cheers,  JM

Hi there,

NSW BDM online death registration index

23129/1964 District of Auburn
Mancktelow, Frederick Evelyn, son of Albert George and Jessie Evelyn http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm

A transcript of that record would provide much more detailed information, including any marriage, childen, his mother's nee name and the like.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,300394.0.html

Also the Ryerson Index has several indexed notices for deaths/funerals with the Mancktelow surname

I don't feel this is the correct Fredreick Mancktelow
as there is a birth in 1895 in QLD that matches the parents names on this death registration

Hello there

It would help us if you could give us a bit more information if you have it.
Do you know where your grandfather was born at all?

there is a birth registration in Qld

1915/39274
Frederick Mancktelow
father Frederick Evelyn  mother Ethel Muir

now  this indicates the birth was registered in 1915 BUT the birth could have been earlier.

Where abouts did your grandfather live in Australia.

Did he serve  in WW2

Hi there,

Jenn's (always  ;) )making very good points,
- birth being earlier  QLD online births index covers Historical Birth Records (1829 - 1914)  .
1915/39274
Frederick Mancktelow
father Frederick Evelyn mother Ethel Muir

now this indicates the birth was registered in 1915 BUT the birth could have been earlier.

Where abouts did your grandfather live in Australia.
Did he serve in WW2

Also, Haybenshe, have you considered any of the old Commonwealth of Australia electoral rolls, as the surname is not nearly as "popular" as say  Smith or Brown or Jones  ;D so it may be easier to find your Federick Mancktelow if you could let us know at least the state he may have lived in ....   It could be that we can find him and others at same address ...

Cheers,  JM
