Hi Oblivion,

1901 census (RG13/2517) -

At Smithies, Morville, Shropshire

William Corbett Age 85 - Widower
Thomas Foulkes - Son in Law Age 57 - Gamekeeper b Broseley
Mary Ann Foulkes - Daughter Age 56 - b Morville
Joseph Foulkes - Grandson Age 22 Gamekeeper -  b Morville
Thomas Foulkes - Grandson Age 20 - Assistant Gamekeeper
Mary Foulkes - Granddaughter Age 15.

You can track Thomas Foulkes back on the 1891 census as a Gamekeeper at Shirlett (RG12/2100) and 1881 at Smithies (RG11/2628) In the 1851 census (age 7) he is living with George Merrick Age 27 and his wife Mary Age 27 and their son Richard Merrick age 1. The census says Thomas is the "son of the wife"

Hope this helps.

Alan

Hi Oblivion,

Just checked on the marriage for Thomas and Mary Ann.

Her surname was Garbett and they married in Bridgnorth in Jun Qtr 1876 (Ref 6a/1201). You can purchase a copy of the marriage cert for £7.

Ancestry had transcribed the 1901 census as Corbett but on closer inspection I can see its Garbett.

William Garbett came from Ditton Priors Shropshire.

Do you need any more census information?

Hi Oblivion,

1891 Census at Smithies -

William Garbett Widower Age 75 Estate Worker b Hitchwood
Mary Ann Foulkes Daughter Age 46 Housekeeper b Morville
William Foulkes Age 14 b Morville
Joseph Foulkes Age12 ditto
Thomas Foulkes Age 10 ditto
Annie Foulkes Age 8 ditto
Mary Foulkes Age 5 ditto

In 1881 Mary Downes (William Garbett's sister in law) is with the family age 73 - b Culmington.
In 1891 she is with the Rowley family as "Mother in Law" - Head Richard Rowley Age 47; Wife Mary Rowley age 50; Ellen Maria age 14; Mary age 13 and Richard Henry age 9 at Eaton under Haywood, Hungerford.

Willliam Foulkes (b1876) had left home in 1901 and seems to turn up in Norfolk age 24 - Gamekeeper  - single, living with the Sherwood family at Colveston, Swaffham.

William Garbett seems to have died in 1909 age 93 - his wife was Ann who was born in Culmington and died in 1877 age 73

1871 census has William Garbett age 55
Wife - Ann age 66
Daughter - Mary Ann age 26

Mary Ann seems to be their only child as the same three appear in the 1861 and 1851 censuses.

I think that William Garbet (note spelling) may have been christened 21 May 1815 to John Garbet and Martha (via IGI).

 Mary Ann - Sept Qtr 1928 - also age 83 (Ref 6a/535)
