I am looking for the marriage certificate for a James Davies and Fanny Cooper, from 1877. They were married in merthyr tydfil in the september quarter.

If anybody can help me please let me know as I am trying to find the parents of these people and believe that the information on the marriage certificate will help me.
Any information will be of great help and will be greatful if anyone could help me.

Thank you very much

To get this type of information you will need to buy their marriage certificate.

Just had a quick check and they were married on the 25th September 1877 at Merthyr Tydfil Registry Office.

Have you found them on the 1881 census? If so, can you post those details here?

I am trying to find Fanny's maiden name from the marriage certificate to make sure I am looking at the right people and to try and find her parents!
If you have any further information on this please help me!

Hi Kate

The only way that you can get the information from a marriage that took place in a registry office (as the one that you are after did) is by purchasing a copy of the certificate.  It costs £7 and you can do it online http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Unless somebody else is researching your family and already has a copy of the certificate, that is the only way I'm afraid.

Best wishes

Hi Kate

Does the maiden name of COOPER not match with that on a childs birth or something?  What exactly is your puzzle?

As she was married to James from a young age, all the children have his surname. Is there anywhere that you know where I can view birth certificates, as one of the children had quite an unusual name.

Thanks Very Much
Kate

Hi Kate

The birth marriage death indexes are available to view online (not the actual certificates) at http://www.1837online.com (pay per view).

However, these are gradually being transcribed and freely available at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com but they are far from complete as yet.  You can check the coverage on their information pages.  These freebmd entries are also copied to http://www.ancestry.co.uk but they are a bit behind freebmd with regards to coverage.

You will, of course, need to purchase a certificate to see the mother's maiden name and other details - order online as per the above posting.

Best wishes
