Birth place
« on: Monday 22 February 10 08:52 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know how I can find the exact birthplace of anyone born before 1837 without knowing the local parish church they would be christened in. I am referring to Liverpool but do not know the area. I have been in contact with the library but they need the name of the church and I would like a copy of the birth cert.

There were no birth certificates before 1st July 1837, and the introduction of Civil Registration.

It's very hard tracing people pre-1837, especially in big cities, not only because of the larger numbers of people, but because they had more opportunities for travelling longer distances.

As stated above it is very hard to find this for births before 1837. The only thing you could do and this is a very long shot is to find the person in question on the census' from 1851 onwards and see what is down for the place of birth. Nine and a half times out of ten it would say 'Liverpool' or the like but you might strike it lucky by finding the actual parish down but this is unlikely but has to be worth a try.

Hi,

Another suggestion is to keep checking www.lan-opc.org.uk  .  These records are updated regularly and although he is not listed as yet, you may strike lucky in the future.

Kind regards,
Mo
