Rising family of Somerton norfolk
« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 19:04 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking information on the 'Rising's' of Norfolk.

I believe that the Rising's have descendants from Hockering & Lyng with Edmund being Yeoman and William being Yeoman of Weston Longville.

I also believe that there is a connection with Horsey.

Would really, really appreciate any info.

Many thanks Jono.

Oh I'm sorry...... :-[

Edmund was born around 1645 and william about 1650.

I have info with regards to post 1733 but nothing in between.

I have good reliable info post 1768 but again nothing in between.

My family have always stated that they have origins in Horsey.  But I have little or no info other than a Robert Rising purchased Horsey Hall and him being a descendant of a William Rising...........Its the connection that I am struggling with.

Which Robert are you thinking of, there seem to have been two connected with Horsey Hall (one in 1803 and one in 1845 or was there an earlier one??) http://horseyvillage.com/Horsey-Hall.html  I would be wary of looking across a gap of several generations for a link to 17th centuary yeomen because of a shared name and a family story (tho' Somerton isn't a million miles away from Horsey), you really need to work back stage by stage, documenting each person as you go.  Who have you reliably got back to?

Robert RISING of West Somerton purchased the Horsey Estate from the BROGRAVE family, in 1803. His son (also Robert)) rebuilt the Hall upon his fathers death in 1841.  The RISING family's connection with Horsey ended upon Robert's death in 1885. His ostracised son, Charles Compton RISING died in 1913 near Ipswich and his common law wife took his remains to Canada where he is buried.
If you would like to contact me at: webmaster (at) horseyvillage.com I can possibly help you with any questions you may have. I have the extended Family tree going back to William RISING's (1701-1771) marriage to Mary TILNEY

Hello Astraman. I am searching for a connection between the Rising and Sutfield families of Horsey/Martham/West Somerton. The early spelling of Sutfield was Sutfylde. I am interested because of the history of Sutfield House, White Street, Martham that I am looking at along with other larger historic houses in the village. If there was a marriage between the families it was probably in the early or mid 1600's.
