Wow, thanks ShirleyAnnMarie!

I'll have a look to see whether the birth of Alun gives any more information!

Never say Dai, eh! (sorry!)

Do you think the older sister's name might be Anne and not Alun?
At first I thought it might have been Alice, which was my grandmother's name, but I've just found a birth to Eliza Bowen of an Anne, in Haverfordwest in 1841 and I can't find a birth on 1837online for an Alun.  I'll try for the certificate for Anne and hope for the best!
Thanks for your help

Hello Jan

I am new to Rootschat and found your request regarding Bowens of Haverfordwest.  I am descended from a Bowen family in Haverfordwest - John abt. 1834 had brothers William and Robert.  John's parents were William and Eliza Davies (Blaenavon). William's parents were John and Mary.  Do you have any connections to a family with these names?

Kidn regards,  Heather

Hi Heather,
This does seem very hopeful!
My great grandmother was Fanny Bowen from Haverfordwest, and gives her father's name as Isaac Bowen on her marriage certificate in 1878.  Her age at marriage makes it likely that she's born around 1850.  That's as much information as I know - except that she died in 1899 in St Bartholomew's Hospital, London!

Any information you might have would be very welcome!

Hello again Jan
I made an error in my last email - John Bowen was born abt 1859.  There is no Fanny among the family members that I have listed.  William and Eliza migrated to Australia in the 1860s.  Both John and his father William were tanners.  But I will keep an eye out for Fanny as I delve further into the history of this family.
Regards,  Heather

Thanks, Heather.

I've been searching for Fanny's parents for about 20 years, every so often I chip away a bit more!  I really think I should go and visit sometime!

Please excuse me for joining in.
I note the baptism of 2 Anne Bowen’s in Haverfordwest in 1841 one at H’west St Thomas and one at H’west St Mary.
The IGI suggests full details are 25 Jul 1841 to Eliza Bowen at St Thomas and 02 Nov 1841 at St Mary to Thomas & Prudence Bowen
If it helps I note the baptism of the following:
John Bowen at Rosemarket 1858. IGI suggest full details as 04 Jul 1858 to Michael & Sarah
John Bowen at Llandstadwell 1856 IGI suggest full details as 15 Jan 1856 to Walter & Mary
Robert Bowen at Burton 1852 IGI suggest full details as 12 Dec 1851 to Michael & Sarah
William Bowen at Burton 1854 IGI suggest full details as 24 Dec 1854 to Michael & Sarah
There is no reference to any baptism for these at H’west St Martin, St Thomas or St Mary, so it may be reasonable to suggest that the parents that are of your interest are Michael & Sarah Bowen, who mrd in one of the parishes in the Pembroke Registration District in the 3rd Qtr of 1852

I hope this is of assistance and that you do not mind my small offerings.

Sorry to jump in again ~

If my logic is correct (I live in hope) then I believe that the only person that fits your Eliza Bowen was baptised the 25 Jan 1824 at Llanstadwell the daughter of Lettice Bowen.

Did Lettice marry after the birth of her daughter Eliza and I believe the answer is yes and that on the 04 March 1837 Essex Bowen mrd Lettice Bowen at Llanstadwell.

Interestingly whilst looking for Lettice at H’west St Thomas in 1841 I came across Essex Bowen aged 12 yrs at the home of Francis Thomas a Clergyman in Goat St, H’west St Thomas.

The only Essex Bowen I can discover is baptized in 1829 at Nevern, the IGI suggests that the full details are 29 Jun 1829 baptised at Nevern to George & Sarah Bowen. So this just may be a red herring and best forgotten.

Just to cause possible confusion I have  a Lettice Bowen aged 20 residing at Llanstadwell with Elizabeth Bowen Ind aged 61, in the 1841, this Lettice can not possibly fit into your requirements.

This looks better
1841 Cants Hill Llanstadwell
Essex Bowen 30 Ag Lab Y
Lettice Bowen 35 – Yes
Martha Bowen 03 – Yes
Mary Bowen 01 – Yes
I would have liked Eliza to be there, but hey we can't have everything done up with a nice pink ribbon.

If you consider that I am on the right lines then I can check circa 1806 for the baptism of Lettice Bowen at Llandstadwell, I have an idea who her parents might be, but only if you agree my findings ~ its up to you really.
