Hi all,
Ive been really encouraged by my recent postings on rChat that I've decided to ask about a person who continues to allude me on my own family tree.
My g g grandmother was Jessie Hamilton. I have her marriage certificate which includes the following:
• issued 14 April 1897
• in Illabo, near Cootamundra.
• Mrd to Arthur Claydon Boxsell.
• At 21 years old - making her birth circa 1876.
• her father ‘ unknown’ and her mother Marian Hamilton.
• Jane Hamilton is a witness.
I know that Arthur and Jessie had children - including my g grandmother Daisy in 1901.
I'm looking to find out anything about my Hamilton ancestry. I cant find Jessie’s birth record, and her mother Marian - there is not a single record to document birth or death (that I can find).
I know that Arthur died in Chatswood in 1952, and there is an entry for a ‘Jessie Boxsell (there arnt many!) who died in St Leonard’s in 1964 – but her parents names (Matthew and Margaret) are completely different to her marriage cert. Is it my Jessie but the informant was very wrong?
I also believe that Jessie and Marian are from a Hamilton family that had been at Illabo for some time. I’m very interested in their experiences on the land out there but have no keys to find out at the moment. Does anyone have access to any census records or electoral rolls for that area then?
Many thanks to anyone that might be able to provide any new information - Alli
