Is anyone able to do anything with this old photo please?  It is of my Great Grandad and 2x Great Grandmother.  Many thanks.

Hi Mamor  :)

It's a bit far gone - lots of spots and scratches, etc.  I've had a try but had to use the scratch filter and use the smudge/smoothing tools which tends to make it look too smooth for my liking so  I've added  some texture to make it look a bit better.

Not sure it's much better though!

I also did this one as an experiment. It's done in what's called 'half-tone'

I'll see if I can make it any better later this evening.

Thank you so much Gadget - they're both a big improvement on the original!

Hi again  :)

I've done quite a bit of work on the piccie without using filters,  smudge/smoothing or changing the contrast/levels so that the marks aren't so prominent but I'm now getting sore eyes so will try to finish it off tomorrow.

It looks as if your 2xgrt grandmother was wearing a hat of some kind  :)

Hi Mamor

Here's a go from me. Sadly this pic was only scanned at 96ppi.  Is there any chance you can scan it at 300 ppi and repost?

Cheers

That's what I got too, Caz. That and the scratches really made it a horror to clean up. I think another problem  is that the surface has worn away so that whatever resolution, the features will never be very clear.

Seems like we got the same likenesses though. Mine looked very like yours before I  put the texture on it - but I got more trees    ;D

I'll have another go this pm  :)

I'd still like a go on a 300ppi scan though as the pixelation just intensified with manipulation.

I purposely deleted the trees to try and de-clutter and open the subjects up more as there's too much going on in the pic, particularly with such a low res and that amount of damage.

Here's hoping we can get a rescan!

Finger's crossed  :)

I have one of my grandmother in the 1880s but my Mum had carried it around in her bag fro so long that the surface had worn down so whatever I did, I couldn't get the features up.
