Police records of employment from about 1905 in Cheshire
« on: Saturday 13 March 10 15:07 GMT (UK) »
I 1911 Herbert Price was a policeman aged 27 living with his wife and young baby living at New Chester Road, New Ferry, The Wirral.  He died in 1938, aged only 54, in Crewe and on his daughter's marriage cert in 1941 it states that Herbert was a retired licensed victualer.
If anyone could help with the police bit or with the pub part I would be most grateful,

Abiam2,
There's a Museum of Cheshire Policing, who appear to have some records

They just have catalogue numbers on line but they will do an initial search for free.  So I have put in all the details I have and hope something comes up,

An almost instant reply!  They do have his records and will email them within 48 hours for a fee of £10.  Just hope he was in long enough to make it worth the cost.  Thank you mshrmh for pointing me in the right direction,

Abiam - it's not a site I've used (tried the Manchester equivalent without any luck for an ancestor of my OH's) so I hope you get something worthwhile!

My Great Grandparents lived in New Chester Road on the 1911 census, what number did yours live?

I have just looked it up and our families were neighbours.  My Great Grandparents lived at 194.

Amazing how we can tie up with people!  I will have a look at your family on the 1911.  I am keen to know where he had a pub it must have been around the Crewe area I think.
As I said I hope I'm not paying £10 pounds to find he left the police after a couple of months!  This is my late partner's tree and his children are coming to see me at the end of April so it will be nice to get some more solid information,
