« on: Thursday 18 March 10 08:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone.Could someone please help.I have a name in my research that could have emmigrated to Canada around 1920-1925.How do I find out for sure that it is actually my ancestor?Have been on FindMyPast passenger list found several with the same Surname and some with same birth year.Family stories also say he died before his wife could join him.Where would I go now to find out more info and to make sure he is my anccestor? Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi

If you can check (or get someone to check for you) the incoming to Canada it can give the persons address, who their nearest relative is/where they have been staying in England and who, if anyone they are going to in Canada.

Do the images on FindMyPast give an address for him.  Does his occupation tally.

Many thanks for your help Tressle.I printed off the Transcript of one who was born the same year as my ancestor,it's calculated by his age.It tells port of Departure, where bound,Pasenger destination, ships name,Masters name and steamship line. The only thing it doesn't tell is address of passenger, etc.I only had limited access so couldn't find more out. :( :(

There is a Form 30 for a John Groom, 30 who was on the Montcalm which arrived in Quebec on 17 Aug 1923. His intended occupation was harvester and his destination was Winnipeg, Manitoba. His nearest relative in the country from which he came is listed as Lily Groom, wife, Woore N. Crewe(?) (hard to read). The Form 30 says he intended to settle in Canada.

I'm looking to see if I can find anything more for him or for Lily but so far no luck.

As they married in Market Drayton district, have you noticed that in early 1924 there was a possible daughter born to them in England? (freebmd.rootsweb.com)

I don't see a death for him in the MB indexes or a burial in Winnipeg.
Where else might the death be - Ontario? US perhaps?

Hi folks,

Lets not forget that many kept moving west, some ending up as far as in BC. Sask and Alta need harvesters too. Did his wife follow him?
