DEENEY/GIBNEY NY/NJ
« on: Friday 19 March 10 16:26 GMT (UK) »
I am looking to find a birth cert for a Claire Deeney, born circa 1911, in New Jersey or it could even be New York.

Her father was Charles Deeney, from Northern Ireland (maybe Donegal). Her mother is a Gibney from Oldcastle, Co. Meath in Ireland but we're not sure of the mother's name. We're expecting it to be Bridget (Gibney).

However on the 1930 census, we have found the family with the mother listed as Margaret. There was a sister of Bridget named Margaret. If anyone can find the family on earlier census' we would appreciate that information.

Thanks!

Thanks so much Dettori!

There is a possibility that Margaret is not a Gibney at all. We would love to find the birth cert of Claire or a marriage cert for Charles. Charles immigrated by himself so we think the marriage will be in New Jersey. Any idea how to find this information? We're not familiar with U.S. searches

Thanks again,
Alison

Hello Alison.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. There isn't anything comprehensive online for New Jersey for that time period.  There is information here on ordering certificates:

http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/gen.shtml

Just checked and the New Jersey marriages only cover 1684 - 1895

Thanks so much for all your help.

We're confident now that Margaret IS Bridget. We have found her going through Ellis Island. We would still like to find the certs at some stage but thank you for your part in this search :)

So if the immigration date for Margaret/Bridget was 1894/94 she should show on the 1900 census unmarried   ??? Have you found Charles on passenger lists ?  ???

Yes we found Charles in 1898 going by himself to New York.

We found Bridget going to San Francisco to her uncle Thomas Gibney, which is correct. So we think she'll be in San Fran for the 1900 census. So Bridget and Charles should marry some time between 1900 and 1910.

There was a Margaret Gibney in the family who also travelled to the States but we know she returned to Ireland. After consulting with a relative who is involved in genealogy search as well, she thinks that Bridget used the named Margaret also eg. Bridget Margaret Gibney.
