Graveyards of Kincardinshire?

Hi
I have lots of family from Fetteresso Durris maryculter Peterculter areas of Kincardinshire. I am wondering what kirkyard people from Fetteresso will be burried in as i cant seem to find one for Fetteresso I have looked at Durris and they are not there. any suggestions?

Hi there

My family the Findlays/Cairds and Pypers hail from the same areas and I can tell you there are two cemetrys in Fetteresso (old and new) there is a cemetry in Maryculter and an old one called Templers which is in the grounds of the Maryculter House Hotel. There are also I think 2 in Peterculter and they can be searched on the Aberdeen and Northeast Scotlands web site. www.anesfhs.org.uk


Hope this helps and I am sure someone may have a pre1855 book that can be searched and someone might have the one for after that date Sorry I don't I have just visited them when I was back up in the area

Fetteresso covers a large area, so yor family could be from anywhere

There are three graveyards in Stonehaven, Dunnottar, Fetteresso and Cowie - so the chances they could be in one of them!  In general most merchants landed up in either Dunnottar or Fetteresso but like everything else in family history generalisation is usually wrong!

If this is not too late the ANESFHS has published the full memorial inscriptions for Cowie (St Mary of the Storms), Dunnottar, Durris and other parishes in Kincardineshire.  Quite a lot of people in Fetteresso were Scottish Episcopalian and worshipped at St Ternans, Muchalls.  The BMDs for St Ternans are available on CD also from the ANESFHS (many of the St Ternans folk were actually buried at Cowie).
