I'm am start a search for my g grandfather James Joseph Rossbotham.  Born in Belfast about 1862, immigrated to USA and then onto NZ before coming to Australia.  He was married in Australia to Martha Lang.
Father was William R and mother was Sarah O'toole.  What good free sites can I research for Marriage of William and Sarah.
Cheers

Hiya Yvonne and welcome to Rootschat.....try www.familysearch .org and just put in the surname
Rossbotham and the country Northern Ireland......there are 37 hits and also this will let you see the slight spelling variations of your g grandfather.
135 records on census / christenings etc...have a look through them and see if you recognise anyone....good luck

Unfortunately James was born just before Civil registration started in Ireland (1864), so you will need to research Church records to find his baptism and further family details. To do this you will need to know his religion (Catholic, Church of Ireland, Presbyterian etc..)

see : 2 Minute Introduction to Irish Records

Non-Catholic marriages in Ireland were registered from 1845, so if that applies here you may find the marriage in the Irish Civil BMD Index on familysearch.

Hiya, i think we may have relatives, James Rossbotham and Martha Lang. Just started my family tree and was speaking to my grandmother yesterday who said her grandmother's name was Anne Martha, either Lang or Lane (she's old, couldn't remember) and her grandfather's was John (close to James) Rossbotham. They were married in Sydney Australia.

They had 7 children William (died @ 2 yrs old), Florence, Ellen, Muriel, Olive, Lilah & John. Ellen was my grandmother's mum.

John or James Rossbotham had a brother (name unknown) who was in a wheelchair after an accident as a teen? (fell from a log),  as an adult he went to New Zealand and opened a University there.

These are just a couple of the stories she told me but we ran out of time. I am talking to her again next week so if the link between us is correct I might be able to find out more info for you and vice versa.

I would dearly love to hear from you so we can compare notes as I know my grandmother has expressly wished to know more about her mother's family before she dies.

Please send me a personal message. Thanks

You need 3 posts to have access to the private message system, and unfortunately yapdon63 only seems to have logged in once - over a year ago, and has not responded to any of the posts on this thread.

Hopefully yapdon63 will spot the update message and return to the forum at some stage..

May 5th, I am currently in Dunedin NZ and doing more research, some of the information that you have given seem to fit into my family tree and I would very much like to speak with you in person when I get back home.  Where are you located and you can contact me directly at (*).  I will be home after 22nd May.
Cheers

Hi Yvonne,
I have just happened on this site and put in the name of my great grandfather (James Joseph Rossbotham) to see what would come up. Have you more information about this line in the family? James' son Frederick George was my grandfather.

I would love to be in touch,
Jacqueline
