William Powell b. 1882-1884 look-up please
« on: Monday 22 March 10 09:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone just looking for a BAPTISM if possible.

I have William's marriage cert to SARAH ELIZABETH TUDOR nee GRIFFITHS, she was a widow.
Anyway in 1910 when he married he is 27 apparently. Marriage solemnized in the district of Hawarden.
Also i have a death cert which is 8th Nov. 1918 and he is 32????

To make it easier to find his Baptism i have his mother Margaret Ann Powell nee Leech and his father is John Powell

Just a correct DOB will be useful please.

Thanks Rootschatters

This is more than likely the right person so thanks yeh.

One thing i didn't mention earlier is that he was called up to serve in The Great War but never made it through due to a chest condition. I seen this on ancestry a few months back but can't find it again now. On the record it stated he had done 5 years military service previous to being called up.
He has one of those white military graves in St. Matthews Church in Buckley so i am wondering if he served somewhere else important like Boer War. I don't know anything about this war really but knew it was about the time between 1901, where he was 17 and 1910 where he got married and occupation was Brickmaker.
So to cut a long story short i know a lot about him but his actual age and where these 5 years service was spent.

Sorry that's a lot to take in but maybe you can direct me somewhere where i can find more about this service?

You need to search in WWI Pension Records, I also looked in service records but didn't find anything so his may not have survived.

19 Mount Terr, Lane End, Buckley
19595 16th Batt  RWF, previously served 5yrs RWF

Looks like he served for a month in WW1, Jan- Feb 1915
Discharged due to mitral disease/tachycardia so heart rather than chest condition.

You could try posting on the Armed Force Board and see if they can help you further.

Have you found him in 1911?

No i never i am afraid because i had credits and lost a couple of them on people that wasn't anything to do with me. I was a bit naive then because i didn't have to worry about the money but right now i am money poor. I know there is a free trial on at the moment aswell but with my memory i will forget to end it so if anyone else is kind enough to do a search for me and has a full membership i will appreciate it.

I know like i said in 1910 he was a Brickmaker and also in 1918 when he died he was Brickmaker so that's why i suspect his service came before this time.

The record you found is the one i found but i can't find it again lol

If you search http://northwalesbmd.org.uk/   you'll find 2 possibles:

1) registered Hawarden 1882, ref HAW/29/61

2) registered Mold 1884, ref MOLD/39/58

If you phone the Register Office at Mold, the'll be able to tell you if either of these had a mother whose unmarried name was Leech.

If you find the right one, you might then be expected to shell out £7 for a certificate :-[

Sorry Maidmarion. Just noticed you'd already given Danny the link.

I found John and Margarets marriage on northwalesBMD

POWELL John LEECH Margaret A 1882 Bistre, Emmanuel Flintshire (Mold) North Wales C101/01/E191

Just wondering if anybody could do a Parish look-up for this for me?

Then i would have some more details to go on but the whole family has disappeared from 1891 census and is back on 1901 in Buckley without John.

Sorry Maidmarion. Just noticed you'd already given Danny the link.

Not to worry Tecwyn as you provided extra information anyway.  :)
