Given that the family are fairly clearly Jewish, Kate's surname was likely Bloch or Blokh.

Max was a common anglicisation for the Hebrew name Mordechai (Yiddish Mordche) as was Marks. This would explain why brothers Barnet and Harold adopted that surname.

I suspect that Krevitski is possibly closer to the original than Grivitski. It is possibly a corruption of Kravetski.

Hi Josephinemary. I'm one of the Marks family, my grandfather was born Grivitski but his dad changed the kids' surname to Marks (not sure if he changed his own) when they were children/teenagers. As others have suggested they were a Jewish family. I believe the name was changed because Marks was a less foreign sounding name than the very Russian Grivitski.
